About
VietHam.com, first established as a personal blog on Blogspot, is a US-based cultural thinktank focused on improving the traditional and changing image of the Vietnamese man, and believes that there isn’t enough publicity or awareness about Vietnamese men in US popular culture, politics, and business. VietHam.com revolutionizes the stereotypical Vietnamese male cultural presence by aggregating stories (’evidential ham’), both literal and figurative, that showcase Vietnamese men in all their beauty, eloquence, and understated finery.
Personal Bio
“Most likely to discover the cure for AIDS.”
That was the kind of crap written about me in my highschool yearbook. Unrealistic expectations from my parents, coupled with my own lust for attention culminated in two personas: the smartypants who could solve any problem & the fraud who was always trying to stay two steps ahead of being exposed.
I come from a Vietnamese family where Confucian principles such as respect for elders and education are highly esteemed. I drank the Kool-Aid for while, and for a time, even made my family proud of me. The only problem was I didn’t want to be a doctor or an engineer. It wasn’t boring to me, just not what I wanted to do.
“What are you going to with an English degree??!? Everyone speaks English already!”
Yep. I wanted to write. Moreover, I wanted to create art with words. So it took a car crash that put me within inches of death to drop all the petty rebellion and go pursue what I wanted, without reservation or concern.
